FPE Public Seminar

It is important for members of the community to play a part in community development. The effort should encompass every individual without leaving anyone behind. How do we then create this awareness especially amongst the upper tier of the society? A lot have been said and commented about the situation of the Malay/Muslim community but is it substantial enough? Hence the efforts of community development should realise the need for an appreciation of social research. In the fervor to uplift the community, we cannot afford to nose-dive into coming up with initiatives that could produce negative impact in long term. This community spirit with a strong sense of historical – not historicism – and cultural heritage – not culturalism – remains relevant in understanding the community and the values that it lives by. This appreciation and historical understanding is crucial so as to retain social rootedness and the community’s sense of identity in the face of modernization.

With the above mind, it is our pleasure to invite you to the CLF 2010 FPE Public Seminar: Making Sense of Traditional Values in Urban Society.
